Corona has been a suburb for long enough that the city's original grid — laid out in a deliberate circle that gave it the nickname "Circle City" — is now buried under decades of outward growth. The original ring road survives as Grand Boulevard, but the city's identity today is shaped more powerfully by the SR-91/I-15 interchange at its southwestern corner, one of the most congested and incident-prone freeway junctions in all of Southern California. Commuters heading to Orange County on the 91 endure some of the most reliably frustrating traffic in the region, and the interchange itself generates a steady stream of breakdowns, fender-benders, and tire failures on the steep grades.

The foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains rise along Corona's southern and southeastern edges, shaping both the scenery and the driving conditions. Lytle Creek Road and the access routes into the Cleveland National Forest draw outdoor recreationists whose vehicles get tested on grades they're not always fully prepared for. Summer heat on the black asphalt of the 91 is intense — the combination of elevated temperatures, freeway speeds, stop-and-go traffic, and long grades produces tire blowouts and overheating events that are predictably frequent from June through September.

Tom's Farms, a local institution on Temescal Canyon Road, marks the transition from urban Corona into the more rural Temescal Valley and draws enough traffic on weekends to make it a recognizable local waypoint. Corona's main commercial corridors — Magnolia Avenue, Sixth Street, and the areas around the Ontario-style shopping centers — generate their share of parking-lot lockouts and routine roadside calls too.
